Mt. Bachelor
Kennel Club, Inc. was started in the early 1960’s.
Originally known as the Central Oregon Kennel Club, it
was founded by Don & Carol Callahan, Joanne & Bill Ussery,
Norman & Bonnie Clow & Jean Buchanan.
Club meetings would have 10 –12 members present.
The first “fun match” was held in 1966.
When the club applied for its first American Kennel Club
Sanctioned Match in 1973, it had to change the name to meet AKC
guidelines. Now the Mt. Bachelor Kennel Club’s roster contains
almost 60 members.
In 1982 MBKC was granted
approval to hold their first AKC all-breed dog show and
obedience trial. Since
1982 they have held AKC approved All Breed Dog Shows and
Obedience Trials annually.
Today, the club holds back-to-back dog shows in late June early
July. In 2002, the club
was approved to also hold agility trials in conjunction with the
other shows.
The club is active in the Central Oregon
community. Their community
service activities include an annual eye clinic for heritable
eye diseases in canines; support of the local 4-H dog clubs;
financial support of local libraries through purchase of dog
related materials; financial support of local humane societies,
especially their spay and neuter programs.
Mt. Bachelor member’s interests encompass many areas, including
conformation, obedience, agility, fieldwork, herding, service,
rescue and tracking, just to name a few.
The club meets on the third Monday of each month in the
Bend-Redmond area at a location announced in the club
newsletter. Interested
parties are welcome to attend and can receive information on
upcoming meetings and events by contacting (541) 385-5537, or
